Carry On Regardless (1961)

Carry On Regardless was the fifth of the Carry On films. It was released in 1961.Carry On films in general are not renowned for complex plotting but this one is almost entirely plotless. It’s actually nothing more than a series of sketches. That’s not really a problem. The quality of the sketches is variable but most are fairly amusing. ‘Full House’ House in San Francisco No Longer Open to Tourists

I have a little secret for you about the Full House house in San Francisco; Full House wasn’t filmed there. They filmed a few establishing shots at 1709 Broderick Street and just reused those for the entire run of the show. The actual Full House house is on the Warner Brothers Studio lot in Los Angeles and it only has 2 1/2 walls. That hasn’t stopped the San Francisco rowhouse from becoming a tourist destination, however. The people who live on the block have had 30 years of your [Read Entire Story]

Let’s All Calm Down About Children’s Cartoons for a Minute, Okay?

Children’s cartoons can be really entertaining even if you’re an adult. Well, a kind of nerdy adult, but still an adult. As an example, Avatar: The Last Airbender and Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia were both intelligently written action shows with impressive character development and all-star voice casts. Adventure Time, the smash hit cartoon from Cartoon Network, isn’t even really classified as a children’s show having the same TV-PG rating as family sitcoms like [Read Entire Story]

The Thing (1982)

John W. Campbell's classic 1938 science fiction novella Who Goes There? was first brought to the screen by Howard Hawks in 1951, under the title The Thing from Another World. This is a much-revered 50s sci-fi movie although if you’re familiar with Campbell’s novella it’s a bit disappointing. Given the enormous influence that the films of Howard Hawks had on his work it’s not altogether surprising that in 1982 John Carpenter chose to do a remake, to be titled simply The Thing.
